To do or not to do

Honestly when I started blogging, I needed the release of being able to write anonymously from my heart, every single thing I wanted to say or everything I do, I wanted to be free to write without fear of censure from those who know me in real life. Or that was what I thought was my reason for blogging from an anonymous platform.

However…this morning, it just occurred to me that I’m probably just hiding. Hiding from the wrong things I've done in the past, and thus hiding from the wrong things I think I’ll do in the future then blog about. Hiding my health status, hiding my private thoughts that i feel like sharing but still keep private…just hiding. And what hiding does to you is that you are in a safe and cozy prison, you are not free to know who loves you just as you are because they don’t really know you, and some of those who do know you are saddled with the burden of keeping things hush hush for you that they have no idea if they are okay with these things or not, thus you always have to be explaining things and re-assuring them whilst still grateful that they are there anyway even with their faulted opinion about you.

And then you find out you are more focused on the past, either explaining it, or apologizing for it, or regretting it… and the devil begins to play chess in your head saying ‘what’s the guaranty that you won’t do it again, why do you think you deserve better etc’…and you begin to believe these and then you mess up some more because you believe its the story of your life, you cannot rise above what was…or what used to be.

So now I’m thinking of going public with the blog. Make every body know abeg. And so I need to hear from you, just how bad an idea is that? How bad can it be? What’s the worst that could happen? Because the alternative in my head right now is to just shut this one down and start afresh, because blogging anonymously is just now working for me anymore.

  1. My opinion on this is HIGHLY flawed, so take it with a pinch of salt...But i reckon that the underlying reason for annon.blogging will always remain. Chances are that you will go public, it may all go well albeit for the brief periods of explaining away bits and pieces of your that your personal circle were never in the loop of. But sometime in the future, you may find yourself in need of that quiet unidentified placeto allow your thoughts roam free. The past and and possibly future sins that you seek to put closure on are a sum of the parts of you. Public blogging hardly stops that. If you are in need of personal identification for your words, thats an entirely different motive altogether.
My 2pence...open your public blog elsewhere, but don't close your private space for unbridled expression. The world is much too much of a noisy place to indulge free access to every side of you.

  2. I think it depends on the real reason you started blogging anonymously. I am kinda semi-anon on these streets so i have had to censor myself somewhat which works for me. I write a lot. I just don't blog about everything i write. I don't believe anything i put up would never be traced back to me in "real life" so whatever i'm not comfy with, i don't blog it. I could "come out" anytime i want without thinking "OMG, i need to delete this" or explain stuff to people.
The world is smaller than we think and so is the internet. Do what makes you happy. If you want to feel free on here and you feel "coming out" is the way, then do it. If not, you can close this one down and open another one...then start afresh

  4. Babes, if coming out is what works for you right here, right now...if you've weighed all the pros and cons and still think you can pull it off, no shiii...Like Toin, I'm semi anon. I have other blogs that are very anonymous and whatever I'm not comfy with posting on here, I post there or the other there :)

Just think it through...If the idea still works for you, do it.

    1. I agree with you my favorite witch... and hey the only reason you felt bad was cos you are my personal person and you didn't like that I hid it from you (una), considering the fact that you know everything I get up to.

  8. There must be a reason you start out as anon, have things changed? I would say open a new blog and keep this as anon. There are certain joys of being an un anonymous blogger you may be missing out on... business wise. so you can have 2 blogs :)

  9. I've been thinking about this too. I figure I'm semi-anonymous, so there are things I'd love to write about but I can't, because people know who I am. I think having a second blog is the way to go. I'm with Sisi Yemmie on this, Keep this anon and go start a new one.
